On April 16, 2011 history was made! Jack participated in his first Science Fair at Kiski Area Senior High School. The day was a typically miserable spring day in Western PA. Jack had prepared a science experiment with 10 crickets in a box, adding 5 different cotton balls with 5 different smells (vinegar, apple juice, apple slice, rubbing alcohol, vanilla) to the box to see how the crickets react. The experiment itself proved nothing, lol! The crickets just tried to get out of the box no matter what smells were introduced. I have embedded the video that we took to the fair. We projected the video onto the wall of the gymnasium.
We learned a few things on this day.
1. Science Fairs are very loud. If you are going to have a video make sure that you have nice speakers.
2. Jack had the opportunity to play with several different experiments. The hands on experiments were the most popular ones. (blowing bubbles, candy dispenser rube goldberg machine, magnets and many more)
3. Jack love science and the hands on nature of the activities, keep this in mind educators, kids love to do and apply!
4. It is important to do activities like these with kids. They love science when presented in this fashion. We won't miss this opportunity each year.
Great job Jack! I am glad that we were able to share this experience.

Jack Kindergarten Start
Well Jack has had a rough couple of days to start kindergarten. So far he has lost his recess time both days and today he had a note sent home. He knocked a bag of chips out of some kid's hand in lunch. He claims that he was trying to help the kid open the bag but the teacher didn't see it that way. He started saying tonight that he is being tortured at school by the teachers because they are always telling him what to do. I have complete confidence in Jack that he will over come his issues and be successful. I just hope that I can help him do this sooner rather than later.
On a positive note, Jack is doing much better at soccer practice. He is focused on the drills and listening to the coaches much better than on day one. He is of course the best athlete on his team, he's my son did you expect anything different? But seriously he is pretty good and will be awesome once he understands how it works.
I thought I would post something to encourage Jack to keep at it and work to improve at school and at soccer. Thanks Rock! Keep at it Jack!

Jack's 5th Birthday
Tonight Jack will be having a "friends" birthday party for the first time. He is excited but quietly building a fort in the living room, which I sure Monica will find thrilling. Luke finally went down for his first nap of the day, long story. Jack has invited 10 of his daycare friends to the party. The party is being held at Seabase in Greensburg, think Chuck E. Cheese but with more jungle gym less games.
His friends that will be attending; Jamesy, Brandon, Cody, Ryan, Donald, Genna, Sheyenne, and Nicholas. It should be a fun time. Pizza, chips and cake from Walmart is on the menu. Jack chose a Diego Cupcake Cake, much easier to deal with than a regular cake.
I will post pictures and gifts received when I get them.

Summer Plans
The Crider's are in the process of planning our summer. I will be busy planning and delivering summer workshops. I will be teaching in August at the WIU; Beyond the Search: Google Tools and Apps and C3: Connect, Collaborate and Create. I will also be teaching a book study of the Element by Ken Robinson.
We are planning a trip to the beach in August and several day hikes throughout Western PA. The boys are growing fast and soon we will have two little movers running all over the place.
In June we will be moving to Washington Twp (708 Colonial Drive). This is exciting and will take some time but Monica has been doing a great job of getting things packed and organized for the move. Hopefully it will be a smooth move and everything will go as planned.

First Post to the Tribe Blog
I got the idea from a friend to create a family blog, thanks Christine. I thought that this would be a good way to keep anyone interested in the tribe up to speed with stories and pictures. I also wanted to create this blog so that I could win a free book! Hopefully I will keep up with this and add to it frequently. Maybe Monica can help me keep this thing going, lol.
